Extraordinarily long trumpets flare into exotic white flowers with a star-shaped magenta eye and tangerine stamens. Opening in the late afternoon, these elegant flowers will perfume the air with a heady orange blossom fragrance which continues throughout the night, attracting moths, then closing again in the morning. The bushy plants with heart-shaped leaves develop tubers, which like dahlias will survive mild frost in freely draining soils or can be lifted and overwintered with protection to grow again the following season.
