Extraordinarily long trumpets flare into exotic white flowers with a star-shaped magenta eye and tangerine stamens. Opening in the late afternoon, these elegant flowers will perfume the air with a heady orange blossom fragrance which continues throughout the night, attracting moths, then closing again in the morning. The bushy plants with heart-shaped leaves develop tubers, which like dahlias will survive mild frost in freely draining soils or can be lifted and overwintered with protection to grow again the following season. Heat and drought tolerant, Mirabilis longiflora ‘Angels Trumpets’ makes a showy and unusual plant for borders and containers. Height 80cm (31”). Spread: 50cm (20”).
