Batteries and Electric not needed because it's solar powered. Worked the second I took it out of the box! Lovely to hear the ripples of water in the garden. Delighted with the purchase so I bought 2 more.

no batteries, electricity required. Works well when sun is overhead. Bought it as a decorative object and also for the fish to shelter under. A pity the green of the centre is not like the green of the 'leaf' surround. Otherwise quite happy with the product
