Brighten Your Home with Beautiful Amaryllis Blooms
Amaryllis are one of the easiest and most spectacular flowering bulbs you can grow indoors — perfect for bringing vibrant colour to your home during the darker months. With just a little care, you’ll be rewarded with bold, trumpet-shaped blooms that last for weeks.
Here’s how to grow them successfully:
Choose the Right Pot
Select a pot about 2–3 cm wider than the bulb and ensure it has drainage holes. A heavy pot is ideal, as Amaryllis stems can grow tall and need support.
Planting the Bulb
- Fill the pot with a free-draining compost mix.
- Place the bulb so that the top third remains above the soil surface.
- Firm the compost gently around the bulb and water lightly.
Light & Warmth
Position your pot in a bright, warm spot (around 18–20°C). A sunny windowsill is perfect. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth.
Watering & Feeding
Water sparingly until you see new growth. Once the flower stem appears, increase watering and feed every 2–3 weeks with a liquid houseplant fertiliser.
After Flowering
Once the flowers fade, cut the stalk back but leave the leaves — they’ll feed the bulb for next year’s blooms. Continue to water and feed until the leaves yellow, then let the bulb rest for 8–10 weeks in a cool, dry place before starting the cycle again.
Tip: Plant bulbs at intervals for continuous blooms throughout winter and into early spring!
Bring a burst of colour indoors this season — it’s easier than you think.
