Huge, fragrant, blousy blooms flush peach and salmon as they mature above handsome green foliage, up to fifty on each plant every summer. An incredibly rare and highly sought-after plant, expensive yet lasting for decades. Deer and rabbit resistant but loved by butterflies. Perfect for cutting, lasting well in a vase, peonies prefer moist well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Itoh hybrid plants look much like a Tree Peony, with a domed shape of handsome foliage which becomes dormant over winter much like an herbaceous Peony, dying back in autumn and reappearing in early spring. Fully hardy perennial .
Intersectional (Itoh) peonies are Hybrids between tree and herbaceous peonies, the foliage of these plants dies back in winter to leave a low, woody framework. The flowers, largest of all the peonies, are produced over a longer period. They are grown like herbaceous peonies and need similar conditions and, although expensive to buy, make impressive feature plants for a small or large garden.
All peonies require a moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Provide support for varieties with large flowers. Plant peonies in a rich but well-drained soil in a position of full sun.
Oue bare-root peony plants should be planted as soon as they arrive. Peonies are best planted in Oct- April March . Ensure you don't plant them too deeply, as this will yield poor results. Mix in plenty of well-rotted organic matter before planting. Apply a balanced fertiliser such as Mr Middleton Seaweed when planting .
