A widely-used herb with a flavoursome, piquant aroma. Essential with roast lamb, boiled potatoes, peas and spinach, and also makes a delightful and refreshing herb tea. Easy to grow, ideal for pots and borders.
Sowing Info
Sow seed on the surface of the compost. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at 20-25°C (68-77°F) until after germination which takes up to 21 days. Keep compost on the barely moist, water lightly as seedlings emerge. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
Growing Info
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for a few days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart. Pinch out to keep compact. Roots can be invasive so restrict by growing in containers or pots sunk in the garden.
